Supervisor's "Greening Brookhaven" Program has goal of
10,000 trees planted by 2020
On Friday, April 21 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, Supervisor Ed Romaine and the Town Board will be in the South Parking Lot at Town Hall to celebrate Earth Day (April 22) by holding a "Free Tree, Mulch and Compost Giveaway" as part of his "Greening Brookhaven" initiative. The event will be held rain or shine. The Town will also hold a free raffle with the grand prize being a compost tumbler. The goal of the initiative is to distribute and plant 10,000 tree seedlings by 2020, the same goal date for the Supervisor's Green Energy and Sustainability initiative for Town facilities. The free tree seedlings, mulch and compost will be distributed on a first come first served basis while supplies last. Mulch is available bagged or in bulk while supplies last. Residents of Brookhaven Town may also pick up free mulch and compost at the following Town facilities beginning on Friday, April 21:
Commercial vehicles are permitted only at the Brookhaven Landfill, where a fee of $12 per yard will be charged.
